About Sam

From simple beginnings in rural Tennessee, Sam Williams learned very quickly to work hard and smart not only with his hands—but also with his head. These are lessons that have stayed with him throughout his career. 

 

Having graduated as an electrical engineer from Georgia Tech and receiving his MBA from Harvard, he achieved extraordinary success as a global business and community leader in Atlanta. He became a published author and a professor at Georgia State University. 

 

Inspired by Atlanta’s famous Moulthrop family and having studied under local master wood turner Nick Cook, working on his lathe with so many varieties of wood has been one of his favorite pastimes. It’s easy to see that Sam also meets with extraordinary success turning out beautiful bowls and forms in his studio, named Dances With Woods.
